CLINICAL INNOVATION

As part of Extendicare, we have the ability to place new pieces of equipment readily, as the organization is committed to quality of care with the latest technology. The following equipment and services are used in a variety of ProStep locations.

Accelerated Care Plus (ACP) Modality Equipment: Over 80% of our centers use ACP modality equipment.

Biodex Balance System: A state of the art electronic balance testing and training tool used to reduce falls and improve balance and strength.

Biodex Unweighted System: A dynamic suspension system which enables partial weight-bearing therapy to be conducted with the assurance of patient comfort and safety, and with convenient access to the patient for manual assistance and observation.

NeuroGym^® Sit to Stand Trainer: These devices actively assist the standing motion with support at the knee, trunk and arms to promote early mobility. The NeuroGym^® Sit to Stand Trainer uses a counter-weight mechanism to provide a safe and effective way to strengthen weight-bearing muscles and increase standing stability and endurance.

LiteGait: A partial weight-bearing therapy device, found to be safe and effective for walking for those with partial weightbearing restrictions or limited walking ability.

VitalStim^®: VitalStim^® is the only neuromuscular electrical stimulation device approved by the FDA for treatment of dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing. Every Speech Language Pathologist within the organization who has their Certificate of Clinical Competence is encouraged to become VitalStim^® Certified at no cost to them.

Electronic Documentation Systems
ProStep recognizes the desire of therapists to document and bill accurately at all times. In order to enhance accuracy in data capture, in 2011 ProStep started the implementation of electronic documentation throughout our centers in a two phase approach. The first approach includes evaluations and weekly notes being completed on laptops and other computers. The second approach includes data entry (billing and daily notes) for each patient treated for the day.
